Hazardous Waste Disposal. The Autoclave Bag

Autoclaving is a process in which microbes and other potentially infectious substances are destroyed under heat. This process is used to sterilise surgical instruments, lab consumables. media and other materials prior to use and before disposal.

Autoclave bags are temperature tolerant, flexible carriers used to hold items such as waste during the sterilisation/autoclaving process.

Autoclave bags are all single use items, designed to withstand temperatures of 121 - 160°C and are typically made from:

  • Polypropylene (PP)

  • High-Density polyethylene (HDPE)

  • Polyamide

They come in many sizes. Some may include a sterility indicator.
